solpow4homesToday more and more people are turning to solar power residential and commercial structures. The high costs of electricity and the desires to live a more environmentally conscious lifestyle is making solar and wind power viable alternatives.

There are basically three types of solar electric power systems which can be integrated into your home to provide solar power residential.

Utility-tie system also called a grid-tie has no process of storing the energy it produces, in fact it’s only function is to feed all of the power it captures through a inverter and offset the power you would normally consume from your local utility company. To put it in layman’s terms, it basically slows, stops, or reverses your utility meter.

Utility-interactive system’s contain batteries and can accomplish two functions, like the utility-tie system it can slow, stop or reverse your electrical meter and also provide backup power during utility failures. This is the system that is used for households that are living completely off of the grid, and usually cost up to 30% more than the Utility-tie system.

Stand-alone system’s are typically used when there is no public power available. Normally they are paired with a fueled generator for supplemental short term support or to shave off peak loads. These type of systems do not rely on the utility companies at all, and are fully self supporting.

Solar Cells or photovoltaic cells convert sunlight directly into electricity using special materials called semiconductors such as silicon. How they work is when light hits the solar cell a portion of the absorbed light is transferred to the semiconductor. This flow of electrons acts as a current which is drawn off to be stored or used externally.

Implementing solar power residential is not as easy as slapping some panels on your roof, in fact there is a little science involved although it is not difficult either. With a little reading and handyman skills it can be done quite easily as a home-brew project. To take advantage of the sun’s energy the solar panels should be pointing towards true south. They should also be inclined at a angle that is equal to the area’s latitude to absorb the maximum amount of energy year round.

Solar panels are absolutely able to generate electricity for residential needs. In the past it has been the initial price tag that has scared most people off. Although many people are learning how to do this on their own by using supplies that they can easily find or build themselves. Building the right system can provides you with thousands of dollars worth of electricity per year, it is definitely worth the time and effort to take on the task. A smaller solar panel residential that is just going to heat your water does not even have to be hooked up to the power grid–it can just be hooked up directly to your hot water tank–and that in itself will save you hundreds of dollars per year.

Solar is the wave of the future, whether you buy into the global warming theory or not, you cannot deny the hit in your pocketbook from rising energy costs. Solar power residential more and more is going to be the alternative of choice.

Despite what the traditional media would have us believe, the future really is bright. This is just one of many many radical new possibilities within the solar power industry.

Then theres breakthrough in ocean thermal, wind, even anti-matter is out there as a genuine clean alternative to fosslil fuel. So we don’t have to be reading about doom and gloom. Positive news might not sell as well as fear, but it sure is cleaner and better for you!
