A new solar technology is quickly becoming popular and that is solar roof panels. More aesthetically pleasing than the large panels that sit out in your yard somewhere or on a large tower, solar roof tiles are the trend in this newly emerging technology.
The newest solar roof tiles are not just on the roof, but are actually a part of the roof. The secret behind this new technology is streamlined interlocking solar tiles that fit to the exact shape of your roof. This new interlocking technique blends in with the style and architecture of your home.
The most common solar roof panels are the solar thermal collector type that converts light into electricity, running through a inverter and then in turn being used or stored in banks of batteries to be used later. For household applications the electricity generated by solar panels on the roof can be used to provide hot water for sinks and baths, or used in a forced water heating system that will heat the entire building.
Solar Roof panels in the past have been used by people who had homes that were too remote to have electricity from the power companies. Now that energy costs have went through the roof solar panels are being adapted by people who do have access to local power companies, but are wanting to offset some of the costs.
The degree of the angle on the solar roof panels is usually a standard one, but the main issue here is the way to make the panels stay exposed to the sun for the longest period of time. Most experts in this technology claim that the south oriented
receive more sun exposure, and if you decide to buy some west or east oriented ones, a higher number of panels will be needed to get the same amount of power generation. Nevertheless, not all roofs allow for south orientation.
Most solar roof panels will be positioned at a distance of three or four inches from the roof, and are lightweight so that you do not have to worry about the weight they will add to the house structure. Before deciding on what type of solar roof panels to install, it is advisable to do some simple research as to what options you have for your structure.
Many cities around the world are giving huge rebates and or helping to pay the costs of installation for people who implement a energy saving system to their house. Check with your local city to see what kind of additional benefits that will be available to you.
Everyone understands that using solar energy is a great way to conserve energy and lower your utility bills, but the reason that most people have not been quick to add this technology is because of aesthetics and lack of convenience. Fortunately with the new technology of solar roof panels, those hesitations are quickly fading.
The trend is clear and within five years the majority of new homes built in the UK and USA will in all likelihood offer solar power systems as a standard feature. The green building revolution is upon us and solar roof panels are the wave of the future.

With a passion for conservation, and a strong interest in becoming totally Free from Big Energy. I bring you How to Make Electricity, a blog of commitment to our planet.

Great article! I absolutely love solar technology and hope to see further advances in the near future as this stimulus packet begins to fund research and development of renewable energy sources. It’s definitely time to free ourselves from the power grid…we could do it independently for almost free, or we could wait years for the government to finally get around to building solar and wind plants.
If we begin to use less electricity, or increase renewable energy sources, then will can drastically reduce our carbon emissions by 2010. The fastest solution is for individuals to start investing in change by installing renewable energy systems in their homes. This will get them off the grid and produce less emissions from generating electricity.
Now is the best time to do it, with all the tax credits available to ‘green homes. The thing that can be most costly is the installation, which you may have to pay a contractor $2,000.00 USD for an entire system.
If you want to save money on the system installation you can pick up a renewable energy guide to do it yourself for under $300.00 USD.
